Do you like to sing? Would you be interested in getting together with other singers? Then Oakville Choral Society is for YOU!
Oakville Choral Society has been a part of the Oakville community for over 50 years. We are a non-profit cultural organization whose aim is the promotion of choral singing and music appreciation. While the presentation of polished performances is the end result, of equal importance is the musical knowledge gained, the enjoyment of rehearsals, and the social aspect which all combine to enhance the community spirit and camaraderie among the choristers.
We are a non auditioned choir and the only prerequisite for membership is a love of singing and a willingness to learn. Some musical knowledge is helpful.
We have an extensive library of a vast variety of music ranging form the serious to the frivolous. Programs are varied and are held in December and April or May. All music is provided to you and is included in the membership fee of $150 for each session or $300 for the entire year. When the program requires solo work, we are joined by professional soloists from the Oakville or surrounding area. We are sometimes accompanied by a small orchestra comprised of musicians from the area.
Our current Director is David Bowser who has studied and performed extensively both in Canada and abroad. He is also the Music Director and Conductor of the NYCO Symphony Orchestra and chorus with whom we sometimes collaborate in concerts. He is an active guest conductor, university professor, vocal coach and composer while enjoying a parallel career as a visual artist.
Anne Marie Leonard is the OCS accompanist. She is a well-known local pianist and organist, as well as a vocal and instrumental performance coach for professional and amateur performers. She is a professional pianist and organist and has enjoyed a multi-faceted career, spanning a wide range of music genres.
An alumna of the Royal Conservatory of Music, under Clifford Poole, Anne Marie has played piano professionally since the age of 14.
Anne Marie is the Director of Music Ministry for St. Thomas a Becket Anglican Church in Mississauga. She accompanies several choral groups including The Oakville Choral Society, the Calbes Voice Studio and many local school choirs.
Registration is the Tuesday after Labour Day, 7pm at St. Aidan’s Church located at 318 Queen Mary Drive in Oakville. Regular rehearsals are held Tuesdays at 7:45 pm to 10 pm, from September to May. A further registration is held in January for those wishing to join then.
